Today I am sharing all about the under $20 La Mer dupe you need. This cream is a total dupe for Creme de La Mer, the ultra-bougie, celebrity favorite, prestige night cream.
The Journey to La Mer
Back in the height of my Quest for Clear Skin™, I was willing to try just about anything. Seriously. Y’all, my skin was awful. A combination of adult-onset acne, skin picking, constant stress, sun damage, poor diet, dehydration, and hard water had left my skin in a truly goblin-like state. I might share pictures one day, but let’s just say, I am not exaggerating when I say goblin-like. It was awful. As someone getting a degree in public health, I turned to online research and started pounding through every beauty blog I could find. Somehow, I ended up on Gal Meets Glam and found out that Julia credited La Mer for her poreless, beautiful, clear skin. As I was willing to try literally anything, I hopped right on over to Nordstrom to check out the price…yeah, that was a hard pass.
$100 for 0.5 oz?! Who has that kind of money?! At 21, working part-time in research, definitely not me.
However, somehow, out of sheer dumb luck, I got the teeny tiniest sample of creme de la mer. I hoped I would hate it, but, unfortunately, I didn’t. It made my skin feel so soft! For once it didn’t actively hurt! It was amazing! It was still $100 for 0.5 oz! I loved it, but our love was not made to last. As soon as my sample was over, it was on to the next one.
SO, my search for a La Mer replacement began. And, actually, it began and ended fairly quickly. Then I found out that, apparently, there is an under $20 moisturizer that brings you all the rich, soothing goodness of creme de La Mer. Well. I bought it, tried it, and L O V E D it.
The Dupe
Seriously, this soothing night cream is so. nice. Thick? Check. Hydrating? Check. Soothing? Check. Non-comedogenic? Check. Life-changing? Check. Costs as much as a month’s rent for a two bed two bath in Philadelphia? NOPE! Leave it to Weleda to come up with an under $20 La Mer dupe that checks all the right boxes.
This dupe is truly perfect for whenever your skin is super unhappy and desperately need some help. While I stick to my clear & glowy winter skin routine pretty religiously, I add in this La Mer dupe whenever I’ve done something that threw off my skin’s balance. In the olden days, this was typically traveling. Now, it’s usually if I had a poor mental health day and picked my chin into oblivion. In these situations, I typically use this as a night cream, but I’m not opposed to slathering it on before getting on an airplane.
I’ve tried both the original skin food and the light version, and while they’re both great, I much prefer the richer option. I think the lightweight cream is great and it’s very similar to my trusty daily moisturizing lotion. However, my go-to daily moisturizing lotion is a lower price and I’m happy with it, so I currently don’t have a reason to switch to the light skin food for everyday wear.
If you are tempted by La Mer and don’t want to take out a second mortgage to have beautiful, hydrated, celebrity worthy skin, give this La Mer dupe a try!
