Happy Friday, friends! Today I’m what you should read in October, aka my perfect October reading list! Man, this week was INTENSE. I went to the office every day this week, so I spent pretty much every afternoon half asleep on the couch. Every part of my body seemed to rebel against this whole in-person work thing. How did I ever wear heels 5 days a week?!
Anyway, with how hard I knew this week would be, coupled with my birthday in a few weeks, I decided I deserved a treat. So, I got a Kindle!!!
I’ve been wanting a Kindle for a while, so this was a very exciting purchase. I started using the Libby app to read over the summer when I got back into reading, and while I love that app for audiobooks, I was getting really annoyed with how much time I was spending on my phone. Does anyone else feel super judged by their screen time app?! I certainly do…
I am super excited about my new Kindle and have already added a ton of books to my reading list. Somehow, I’ve become a “judge a book by its cover” person, lol. Now, instead of reading the snippet on the back of books, I’ll browse around and see how things are rated and if someone who I trust says it was good. I don’t like to know too much about a book before I get started, so every part feels new and exciting instead of me waiting for something to happen or for someone to show up. So far, this has worked out great for me! Shoutout to Goodreads (be my friend on there!!!), bestseller lists, and everyone who reviews books online.
This October, I wanted to make a reading list of books I’ve been meaning to read, thrillers, and some spooky reads to get me in the cozy, Halloween spirit. I think I nailed it with my “What to Read in October” reading list! I’ve started all of these books and so far I am HOOKED. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Beach Read has been on my radar since later summer, and it does not disappoint. It really feels like a good beach read, but there’s substance there, too.
I loved watching the Travel Channel growing up, yet somehow have never read any books by Anthony Bourdain. Kitchen Confidential has been on my list for a while, so I have high expectations.
Mexican Gothic is one of those books that has been recommended by just about everyone I know, so it better be good, lol! It’s a horror story, but I’ve been told it isn’t too scary – we’ll see.
Everyone (and every book reviewer) has told me I need to read The Girl with the Louding Voice, so I’m really excited to dig into this one. I love reading books by Adiche, so I have a soft spot for books set in Nigeria – this is weird, but I feel like I’ve been reading books set in Nigeria for so long that it’s almost a familiar destination to revisit? Reading about it is like reading about the English countryside in a Jane Austen novel.
The Woman in the Window was such a big deal when it came out, I’m honestly not sure how I never got around to reading it. So far, so good!
What are you reading this October? I’d love to get your recommendations!
